Birch Grove Park

What are the hours of operation for the park?
Hours vary based on the season, and are subject to change based on weather conditions. The park is open 7 days weekly, year round, with the exception of Christmas Day when we are closed.

Current Park hours are 9am-7pm;
The snack bar is presently closed.

Generally, hours of operation are as follows:
November – 1st week of April 9:00am to 4:30pm.
2nd week of April through Memorial Day 9:00am to 6:00pm
Memorial Day through August 9:00am to 7:00pm
September 9:00am to 6:00pm
October 9:00am to 5:00pm

Is camping allowed?
As of the 2019 season, camping at Birch Grove Park has been discontinued.

Can I bring my boat to Birch Grove Park?
Boats are not permitted at the park.

Is swimming allowed in the lakes at the park?
No swimming is permitted.

Can I bring my dog or cat?
Pets are not permitted at the park. Service animals related to a person’s disability are always welcome.

Can I feed the wild animals at the park?
No feeding of wild animals is permitted, including ducks and geese.

Is a license required to fish in the park?
Anyone age 16 and older must have a valid license (see Exceptions) to fish the fresh waters of New Jersey with handline, rod and line, or longbow and arrow.

Anglers Under 16 - No fishing license is required of persons under 16 years old.
NJ Residents Age 70 and Over - A driver's license or other acceptable proof of age containing date of birth and physical description will function as the actual fishing license for New Jersey residents 70 and over. No application fee is required, no registration with the Division of Fish and Wildlife is required and no license will be issued. Trout stamps are not required

How do I purchase a license?

Are the park lakes stocked with fish?
Yes, in November and March each year.

Is the public allowed to use the grills in the picnic area of the park?
Yes, fee is $7 per grill and is paid in advance. Contact 609-641-3778. Grill fee must be paid before grills are used.

Is charcoal available for purchase, or do I have to bring my own?
At this time, grilling supplies are not available for purchase.

How far is Birch Grove Park from points of interest, such as Atlantic City and Ocean city?
Atlantic City is just over 7 miles away, a mere 15 minute car ride!

Ocean City and its famous boardwalk, is a wee bit farther, clocking in at 18 minutes and an 8 mile ride.


When are Sewer Bills due?
Sewer Utility payments are due on the following dates:
March 1st and Sept 1st each year.

There is a 10 day grace period for payments of sewer bills. A $5.00 flat penalty will be added to any unpaid balance once a month on or about the 12th of the month.

The first Thursday of each month at 7:00 p.m. in Council chambers.

What is the city official newspaper for advertising?
The Press of Atlantic City.

How many days prior to my hearing date do I need to have all items submitted to the Planning Board Secretary?
Before a hearing date is confirmed, a complete application (the application, plans, survey, etc.) as well as all fees and escrow need to be submitted to the Planning Board Secretary.

Fees and escrow need to be submitted in two separate checks.

Once an application is deemed complete and a confirmation letter is received by the applicant with a hearing date, advertising in The Press, noticing to residents or businesses within 200 ft. (obtain this list from The Tax Assessor at a cost of $10.00) and full application packets must be received by each Planning Board member, the Planning Board Engineer and the Planning Board Solicitor within 10 days of the hearing date.

An affidavit of service needs to be received by the Secretary at least two days before the hearing.

Where and how do I apply for a marriage licence?
If applying for a marriage, civil union or domestic partnership and the ceremony will be in New Jersey, the couple must apply in the municipality where either the bride or groom or either partner reside.

If both reside outside of New Jersey, they must apply in the municipality where the ceremony will occur.

How do I obtain a certified copy of a vital record?
Per Governor’s Executive Order 18, Certified copies will only be issued if all of the following criteria are met:
1. Complete an application (or send a letter) fully identifying the record with all pertinent information.
2. A Certified copy of a vital record may only be issued to you, if you meet the relationship requirements per Executive Order 18 or pursuant to a Court order.
3. Acceptable identification is required

Tax and Sewer

Can I get an e-mail reminder when taxes are due?
Yes, if you sign up for our City email blast. Emails are sent out with City information and updates at least once a month.

When are tax bills mailed?
Tax bills are mailed out once a year sometime in July. New bills are mailed when there is a change in ownership; but it takes 4 weeks to get the changes from the County so please contact tax office for amounts due in meantime.

When are tax payments due?
Property taxes are billed in Northfield on a calendar year, January 1st to December 31st., in four quarterly installments, as follows:

1st quarter - February 1st
2nd quarter – May 1st
3rd quarter – August 1st
4th quarter – November 1st

There is a 10 day grace period. On the 11th day, interest is calculated back to the 1st. If the 10th falls on a weekend or legal holiday, you have until the next working day to make payment. We cannot honor postmarks. Failure to receive a tax bill does not exempt you from paying taxes or the interest due on delinquent taxes.

How do I go about filing an appeal?
All appeal questions should be directed to the Assessor's Office (609) 641-2832 extension 128.

The Tax Assessor is in on Wednesdays from 5:45pm-8pm.

What if I want to change my mailing address?
