The New Jersey Housing and Mortgage Finance Agency (NJHMFA) is hosting a free housing expo on May 30 in Atlantic City for homebuyers and homeowners.

The expo is open to the public and takes place from 2 to 8 p.m. at the Claridge Hotel – Conference Center, 123 S. Indiana Ave.

Potential homebuyers can attend one of two sessions to learn about the homebuying process and how to get $10,000 in forgivable financing to cover down payment or closing costs through NJHMFA, a state agency.

For homeowners struggling with a mortgage, New Jersey's HomeSaver program offers up to $50,000 in assistance. Homeowners can meet one-on-one with a HUD-certified housing counselor throughout the day, who will review their case and help them apply.

Mayor Erland Chau has declared the month of May as Radon Action month in the City of Northfield. Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that is the second leading cause of 1ung cancer, and prolonged exposure to radon can kill as many as 500 people in New Jersey each year! Families who reside in homes with elevated radon levels are at risk of developing serious health problems, and ANY home could have high levels, even when neighboring homes do not. Radon testing can be done with great ease at a relatively low expense to the homeowner, with the cost of reducing radon concentrations being comparable to a home repair. The City of Northfield is pleased to offer FREE radon test kits to residents – supplies are limited! Contact the City Clerk’s Office at 641-2832, ext 125.

As of January 1, 2018, the City of Northfield Public Works Department will collect metal on the 1st Wednesday of the month, City-wide, regardless of your regular trash collection schedule.

Please place items curbside. If metal collection falls on your trash collection day, please ensure that the items are separated at the curb.

Questions? Call the City Clerk's Office at 641-2832, ext 125.

NOTE: 'scrapping', collection of these materials by anyone other than Northfield Public Works, is illegal. If you see a scrapper, please call non-emergency police dispatch at 641-3122.
